NYKFP 2.5

The New York Knicks Fan Page (NYKFP) is the oldest remaining fan site of the New York Knicks on the web today. It debuted on December 18, 1996, which was coincidentally the 33rd birthday of Charles Oakley. Originally, the site was merely an experiment as it was my first attempt at building a web site, but it quickly gained a following as a result of providing regular updates and recaps of games, whereas other Knicks fan sites at the time were updated sporadically with news and photos. Thanks to the vast reaches of the web, I received design assistance from a web designer based in New Zealand named Simon G. who ran a fan site for the Electronic Arts racing game, The Need For Speed. With the assistance of his design efforts, NYKFP continued to gain traffic and even received some press coverage by the Gannett Suburban Newspapers (now known as the Journal News) of Westchester County, NY in 1997.

The attention kept coming and what was once started as a hobby became a big time project that involved several others. With the help of various kind and insightful Knicks fans from the Knicks newsgroup on Usenet, NYKFP became a place to feature articles and commentary from other Knick fans who sought to share their views as the team led by Jeff Van Gundy continued to excite New Yorkers throughout the late-1990s.

With a new domain and web host after several years of sponsorship by various outlets including Allsports.com and the former hockey fan network Puck Place, the 2000-01 season ushered in a new generation for NYKFP as Linda C. of the former Knicks Courtside brought her programming talents to the site and created a backend with various new features to make a growing site easier to manage and maintain.

NYKFP 6.5

Many Knicks fan sites have come and gone since the mid-1990s, while the few good ones have stuck around and found their rightful place on the web. Today, NYKFP shares the Knicks fan site spotlight with about five other sites. I don't consider it a competition so much as an opportunity to bring Knicks fans from all around the world a variety of different choices and perspectives. Knicks fans are blessed to have so many other fans with whom to share their opinions and views, whereas other NBA teams may not even have one prosperous fan site. Ultimately, it's all about the fan experience in hopes that we can make our site your go-to spot on the Internet for Knicks news and discussions.

Over the years, my free time to devote attention to NYKFP has decreased, but I am grateful for the assistance that I have received to allow the site to continue to thrive. Now in the site's 10th year of operation, with the assistance of all those who have helped me prepare this long overdue site redesign, I am pleased to bring forth a new look to NYKFP that ties us together to the past and present of this storied basketball franchise. With a new start for NYKFP comes the new hope that a team in the doldrums for most of this decade can give Knicks fans something to cheer about again. Go New York Go!
